Macrologic SA and its divisions, operating under the auspices of Polish Software Market Association (PRO), offer Software Legality Audit (ALO) services. All software components used at all workstations and servers owned by the company are audited.

The audit is performed on the Client’s request and is based on a methodology developed by PRO. It also uses the IT tools designed for this particular purpose. The audit report prepared by Macrologic entitles the Client to receive a Software Legality Certificate issued by PRO.

ALO service is aimed at companies which:

  • would like to have a proof that the business software they use is legal,
  • want to protect themselves from unexpected situations, such as stopping the work of the company following the audit carried out by relevant authorities.

While auditing the company’s IT resources, Macrologic acts as the Client’s partner and consultant, who:

  • Prepares comprehensive and objective information about the legal status of all software components used in the company,
  • Provides support in designing and starting up the Software Legality Monitoring System, which will prevent the use of illegal software and indicate ways of correcting mistakes after the audit,
  • Provides support regarding acquisition of missing licenses when necessary,
  • provides Software Legality Certificate issued by an organization of public trust: the Polish Software Market Association (PRO), which represents software developers and distributors, and which cooperates with the police, prosecutor’s offices, legal practices and courts

The aim of Macrologic is to increase the Client’s security with regard to the software used.

Reasons to carry out a Software Legality Audit

Software Legality Audit services have been developed in response to our Client’s concerns about the following facts:

  • The Act of 4th February 1994 on Copyright and Related Rights (Journal of Laws No. 24 item 83) in art. 74 sec. 1 states that computer software is subject to protection.
  • Illegal copying or use of software is subject to severe sanctions including the penalty of imprisonment.
  • Discovery of illegal software during a regular audit carried out by law enforcement authorities may result in immediate confiscation of computer equipment and IT resources, which in many cases paralyses the operation of the company.
  • Usually, the IT system may be accessed by a large number of users. Illegal software is often installed without the knowledge of the system administrator.
  • Many audits were carried out on the basis of denunciation.
  • The members of the company’s Management Board bear personal responsibility for software legality.

Benefits

First of all, safety ...

Carrying out the audit and the implementation of post-audit recommendations ensures the management that all steps were taken to avoid infringement of the Act on Copyright and Related Rights
A reliable audit of IT resources carried out by an independent Auditor is a guarantee that there is no illegal software used in the company in the audit period.
Software Legality Certificate issued by PRO proves that intellectual property protection procedures were carried out properly.
Thanks to partners like PRO, Clients do not have to worry that the work of their organization will be interrupted due to denunciation.

Secondly, organization ...

Audits carried out in accordance with PRO's methodology provide the company with educated employees, who understand the company policy regarding legality of business software in use and will not unconsciously break the law in that respect.
Implementing the procedures of ongoing Software Legality Monitoring will minimize the problem of illegal software installed by employees without the knowledge of the system administrator.
In the event of discovering irregularities, the monitoring system will indicate the ways to quickly fix the problem.

Thirdly, prestige ...

Software Legality Certificate serves as “membership card” of a (still small) club of companies which care about their image, especially in respect of observing the copyright law.
